My Waste My Responsibility

Rotary Twin Drum composter, the drums are made from high-quality UV-stabilised, linear low-density polyethylene. Each drum is of 60 litres capacity and comes in orange, green shades.

The drums are anything, but light and the thickness of their skin serves two purposes: Structural stability and heat retention capacity. The middle layer is fortified with polyethylene foaming insulation. Foaming gives structural stability to the drum as well as retains the heat produced during composting which once again speeds up the process.

The design of the drum is interesting. Each drum has five deep-grooved moulded fins. These depressions help you spin the drum groove by groove to ensure proper tumbling of the pile inside. These two drums sit tight on a heavy-duty, powder-coated tubular stand. The central axis made from stainless-steel tube is rust-proof and strong enough take the load of two fully loaded drums.

Twin Drum Composter Specs:
Length: 32-inch x Width: 23-inch   x   Height: 39 inches
The base of the composter needs 2ft  x 2.5ft (L)

The stand lifts the drums 1.5 feet above the ground and thus, keeps them rodent-free. The aeration vent has small holes which can allow passage only for small ants and no other larger creatures. Even if you place it under the hot sun, the composter will last a minimum of 10 years.

It helps you feed and harvest continuously. When one fills up, another drum takes over. On average one can produce 10 – 20Kg of compost every single month that can be used for home garden and plants. It depends on the quantity of the waste generated.

INTRODUCTION

Process involved in making Compost

Welcome to new era of composting. Now forget the old and tedious methods of pit composting. Presenting an exclusive range of compost tumblers.  Compost tumblers are made up of UV resistant plastic, having a unique thermal insulation, for rapid composting. This technology developed in accordance with the science of composting.

DAILY OPERATION SUMMARY

1)   Open the lid, tip your food waste in (Cut up large chunks, avoid excessive fluid)

2)   Add the same volume of brown waste (saw dust, dry leaves, cocopeat etc.)

3)   Close the lid and turn the drum 2-3 times daily.

4)   Repeat the cycle and when 75-80% full, stop adding further food scrap. This will take
      about4-6 weeks.

5)   Wait for 4-6 weeks to compost cooking, start adding organic waste in the adjacent
drum. Rotate both drums daily. This will take 4-6 weeks to fill the second drum.

6)   Empty the finished compost from first drum. Keep about 10% compost inside which
acts as activator for second batch.

7)   Start loading the first drum again.

PROCEDURE

Start to add your daily waste in compost drum (Vegetable waste, food waste, fruit waste, garden waste etc.)
Add some Compost /saw dust/shredded leaves/cardboard pieces along with daily waste.
Close the lid of tumbler and rotate it 2-3 times.
Do this procedure daily.

COMPLETION OF PROCESS

WHEN COMPOST WILL BE READY?
Daily addition of waste  starts to give black coloured, odourless mixture after 15 days.

When you want your compost from tumbler, stop adding waste 5-7 days before your gardening schedule.
Best Practices
Balance the carbon and nitrogen ratio, adding more greens and less browns.
Small particles will decompose faster than large ones.
High temperatures are not essential for composting, but composting will happen more slowly at low temperatures. In peak summer try to put the composter in shade.
If you find the pile is dry, sprinkle or spray water to keep the moisture level optimum.
Rotating/Mixing twice or thrice a day will help to increase porosity and aeration.
Make sure to cover the composter during heavy rains, too much wetness will result in generating foul smell and longer time to breakdown.
Fill only 80% of the capacity of the composter for proper mixing and to have better aeration.
After about 3-4 weeks stop adding fresh kitchen waste, the final volume will be about 1/3 of the original volume.
Allow the compost to cure for about 1 week before using the compost. This can be done in separate bin.
Leave 10% of compost in the bin for quick processing of your next cycle of compost.
Keep the browns stocked in containers or Bags for quick addition whenever adding greens.
